MDC-CA1c-1963-01
This 1963 Canadian cent shows three separate clash events, two misaligned die clashes and one normal die clash.
The three overlays to the left show the positions of the dies when they did clash. The first overlay is of the normal die clash.
The second overlay shows the relative position of the obverse die when it clashed with the reverse die. This clash was the farthest off centered of the three clashes.
The third overlay again shows the relative position of the obverse die when it clashed with the reverse die.
This close up photo shows the three clash events. The white arrow points to the normal clash mark that was generated by Queen Elizabeth’s chin and throat area. This mark is known by the name of “The hanging boomerang” mostly due to its shape.
The black arrows point to the farthest off centered misaligned die clash marks which were left by the denticles found on the obverse die. Since the obverse die was perhaps dropped at a tilt, only the denticles will be seen in this type of clash. The third clash mark which is attributed to another MAD die clash is indicated by the red arrow. Once again, only a denticle clash mark is seen.
There is a possibility that a fourth clash event occurred (indicated by a green arrow). However, due to the lack of any identifiable clash marks, it is not listed as such.
