CCL(TI)-10c-XXXX-01
This is an unusual die clashed coin. The Roosevelt dime has had its date obliterated by a 20% brockage; it was struck out of collar and has three confirmed, unabraded die clashes.
Due to the three clashing of the dies, some of the first and or second clash marks were transferred back to the original die face that made the original clash marks. This type of clash is known as a counter clash (Type I).
The first three pictures show the obverse and reverse die, with the last picture showing an overlay of the strongest clash.
This coin was found by Fred Weinberg of California.
The first picture of the obverse shows clash marks left by the PLU of PLURIBUS along with a laurel berry and the stem from the laurel branch passing through Roosevelt’s nose.
This picture shows the strong laurel leaf clash in Roosevelt’s nose and the clash marks underneath his nose.
Once again we see clash marks left by the top leaves of the laurel branch
This next picture has clash marks present. These marks were left by the oak branch and its stem.
The first picture of the reverse shows two of the clash marks left by the base of Roosevelt’s bust.
This next picture shows the three distinct clash marks left by the back of Roosevelt’s head. This picture also shows the clearest evidence of the counter clash marks (indicated by the red arrow) The clash marks left by Roosevelt’s head and hair just above his forehead. Once again it is a combination of clash and counter clash marks.
The last picture shows clash and counter clash marks left by Roosevelt’s brow and bridge of his nose.
