CCL(TI)-10c-2001-01
This 2001P Roosevelt dime was clashed at least two times, with the first clash being offset in position from the other clash.
When two clash occur with a positional offset, it creates the opportunity for a counter clash to occur. In this case, it did happen.
Not only did this coin a counter clash (Type I), but it was also struck outside the collar, making it a dual error coin.
The two overlays provided in this set of pictures show the relative positioning of the dies when they did clash.
This coin was provided by Fred Weinberg of Fred Weinberg & Co.
The picture below shows parts of the olive branch that are clashed into and in front of Roosevelt’s nose and forehead.
The second picture shows the flames from the torch being clashed under Roosevelt’s chin.
The next picture shows the duplication of the top oak leaf to the left of the original oak leaf. This transferring of design to first the obverse and then back to the reverse die makes it a counter clash. The doubling of the oak leaf is indicated by the white arrow
.
The picture below again shows the counter clash and also the spacing that occurred between the two clashes.
The last picture shows the clash marks left by Roosevelt’s forehead and the start of his hair and the counter clash of the stem.
