ADC-CO20C-1933-01

This 1933 Colombia, 20 centavos coin has an unabraded, rotated, dual obverse die clash. The reverse die, while being near the same die state, does not appear to have been involved in the clashing of dies and may have been replaced after that event occurred.A note of interest concerning the reverse die is that it does have a Class II doubled die.

This coin is from the private collection of Jeff  Ylitalo.

The first picture in this set shows the dual clash that occurred. One oddity that is hard to discern is the rotation between the strike and the first clash which is 5°. The second clash is rotated from the first clash by 7° or it can also be said that the second clash is rotated from the strike by 12°.

The red arrows indicate the first clashNote the “B” from the reverse just over the word “LEY” which is transposed to the obverse under the D of “DE”. The green arrows indicate the marks left by the second clash which appears to be a bit stronger. The yellow arrow indicates a post strike damaged area.

The first overlay shows the fit of the “B” under the D of “DE”.

The second overlay shows the fit of the strong clash from the chin of Simon Bolivar which was left by the banner on the reverse and the curve to the eagle’s left wing which left a strong clash mark from the throat area.
