ADC-AR5C-1949-01
This Atypical die clash is from Mike Diamond’s collection. It is a 1949 5 centavos from Argentina.
1. Peripheral clash marks are quite strong, but are incomplete in certain areas on both faces. You can even see clash marks of the obverse denticles on the reverse face.
2. Clash marks of central design elements are weaker than peripheral. Observations 1 and 2 suggest that one or both die faces were deformed, either as the result of the clash or prior to it.
3. The reverse face is rotated about 35 degrees counterclockwise relative to the obverse face. However, the clash marks are rotated only about 20 degrees counterclockwise relative to the obverse face. Evidently the clash took place amidst a dynamic die rotation error.
4. Concentric lathe marks are present on the obverse face. I only detect them in the field, but they might have been worn off the design.
5. Some odd raised horizontal lines are present to the left of, and below CENTAVOS. These do not correspond to any portion of the obverse design and may represent die damage.
