ADC-50c-1979D-02
This is a very strong atypical die clash event found on a 1979-D Susan B. Anthony dollar coin. This coin is in the collection of Dale Stokes. The overlay shows the approximate location of the obverse and reverse dies when they did clash.
The upper left image shows clash marks from the surface of the moon and a star below the L of LIBERTY. The image to the upper right shows clash marks formed by the moon’s craters and the tip of the eagle’s wing. The image to the lower left shows clash marks formed by the eagle’s wing and the planet earth. The image to the lower right shows clash marks formed by the lower part of the eagle’s wing. Also noted is machine doubling on the lower edge of Susan B. Anthony’s nose.
The image to the left shows the clash mark formed by Susan B. Anthony’s hair bun and the back of her neck. The image to the right show the clash formed by Susan B. Anthony’s nose, forehead, chin and lips. Close inspection of this area shows slight doubling of the clash mark, more than likely caused by die chatter, which is similar to machine doubling.
