This 1865 3 cent nickel shows multiple, unabrdaded obverse die clashes. The reverse has either been replaced or abraded very heavily to remove the evidence of die clashing.

There are at least five different clashings observed on the obverse die, with evidence of some tilting occurring between the dies as the clashes occurred.

The last picture in this set, which is an overlay of the two dies, shows the slight tilting that took place.

While this is not a particularly strong die clash for this series, it does involve more than two die clashes. Because of that fact, it is elevated to the position of Atypical die clash.

The first picture shows the multiple (5) clash marks left by the left by the top of the Roman numeral 1. Notice the slightly increasing tilt as the clash progress from the east to the west.

The next two pictures show the clash marks left by the bow in the laurel wreath. While there is some indication of multiple clashings, the impressions left are not as strong as those left by the Roman numeral.
