ADC-1c-1960D(SD)-101
This 1960D(SD) Lincoln cent shows two distinct clash events.
2 3 / 1 3 5
The first event that is shown occurred in the area under Lincoln’s bust and the clash marks are from the word STATES.
A portion of the E from UNITED can be seen clashed into the field adjacent to the lower left corner of the bust. A line through the top portion of the letters in the word STATES is the clash mark left by the field and the lower edge of Lincoln’s bust. The line through the E of UNITED is from the back edge of the bust and the field. The overlay immediately below shows the relative position of the dies when they did clash.
The second clash event occurred in the area above Lincoln’s head. While the reverse die does show clash marks, the obverse die has been abraded to remove the clash marks.
Again, the overlay shows the relative position of the dies when they did clash.
The above die scratches may help in identifying these clash events.
