ADC-1c-1960D-71(SD); Stages B & C
This small date 1960D Lincoln cent shows two clash events, in two different die stages.
The first clash event left a line just below Lincoln’s bow tie moving towards the date, this clash mark is from the Memorial building’s roof on the reverse die.
The first image above shows Stage B.
The second image above shows Stage C.
The next two images of the reverse die show the clash mark left by the front of Lincoln’s coat seen as a diagonal line from the Memorial building’s roof up to the first A in AMERICA.
Notice the different die scratches that are on Stage B (first image) and Stage C (second image). Most prominent is the curved die scratch under the first A of AMERICA in Stage C that is not present on Stage B reverse.
The other clash event shows only on the reverse die. The backside of Lincoln’s coat is seen clashed from the E of UNITED down into bay 3. Stage B is the image above while the image below that is Stage C.
The reverse die has been abraded more than once. The image below shows Stage B. This stage is not recognizable from Stage C which is the next image down. The only indication that these were the same reverse dies was the position of the existing clash marks.
Stage C has also developed a die crack from the top of the C in CENT to the E in the same word.
