This 1960D small date Lincoln cent pictured to the left, shows a clash mark left by the word STATES below the bust of Lincoln.
The picture of the reverse die shows the reciprocal clash mark left by the lower edge of Lincoln’s bust through the word STATES.
The overlay shows the relative position of the dies when they did clash.
Also seen on this Lincoln cent is a clash left by the lower part of Lincoln’s back that extends from the D of UNITED to the left corner of the Memorial building roof. The picture to the left shows another clash event that is seperate from the above clashing of dies. This shows the clash mark that was left by the top of Lincoln’s head through the E of ONE and the CE of CENT. This clashed die can be recognized by the die scratch in the field in front of Lincoln’s face.
