ADC-1c-1943-01 Stage A
This 1943 Lincoln cent shows just a relatively minor die clash on the obverse of the coin but a series of 8 or more die clashes on the reverse. The reverse clashes start with 1-2, two sets of closely aligned marks, which were slightly misaligned about 3-5% toward the 10 o’clock position and somewhat tilted toward the southern part of the reverse die. As the clashes occurred, the misalignment slowly dissipates while the amount of rotation increases. By the 8th clash event, the dies rotated 38-39 degrees and erased most of the misalignment which largely changed from clashes 4 through 7. There could be more clashes, and the last slide shows an anomaly in the N of CENT that is similar to Lincoln’s neck at clash 8, but not enough to be certain.
This stage A was submitted by Terry Muth.
This obverse was replaced with a doubled die obverse is a class IV involving an offset eye southeast. Markers for the second die pair match the CONECA files as 1943 DDO-015. This die clash with the DDO obverse can be found as ADC-1c-1943-01 Stage B.
